Louvre Abu Dhabi Finally Opens in Saadiyat Island
The Louvre Abu Dhabi opened to much fanfare in November, giving Saadiyat Island its much-awaited attraction that everyone had been excited for.
Louvre Abu Dhabi sits on reclaimed land in the flourishing Saadiyat Island Cultural District. The area is peaceful and serenic, far away from the hullabaloo of the city, which is a perfect setting for world-class museum such as this. Walking around the area feels like you're worlds away from anything stressful, allowing you to enjoy this masterpiece from Pritzker prize winner, Jean Nouve.
What’s there to see?
Billed as a ‘universal’ museum, Louvre Abu Dhabi exhibits the cultural achievements of mankind from year's past to present-day. The galleries exhibit prehistoric artefacts side-by-side with contemporary artworks from different countries, alongside other masterpieces sought from the world’s most renowned French museums.
Apart from the galleries and temporary exhibitions, Louvre Abu Dhabi also houses its own Children’s Museum which hosts family-focused displays and interactive workshops in English and Arabic. It's an added benefit for the residents of the island where you can also find pristine beaches and plenty of retail areas.
Tours, workshops, international performances, along with a few more surprises await visitors as a celebration of the museum’s historic opening. For a full guide on how to make the most out of your Louvre Abu Dhabi tour, check out this Khaleej Times’ post.
