Next on our list of the world’s best holiday destinations is London!

Sparkling lights, chilly weather, hearty food – these are only some of the things we look forward to during Christmas season in London. The holidays in the city are simply magical with all the fun and exciting festivities filling the streets. Here are some of the events and places you must include on your to-do list if you plan on spending your holidays in this Christmas wonderland.

Christmas by the River

Christmas by the River is London’s most picturesque Christmas market with stunning views of Tower Bridge and Tower of London and the city's skyline as its backdrop. Stretching along the banks of River Thames, it brings together over 60 kiosks selling drinks, delicious food, and homemade gifts. It also hosts a variety of workshops held at its chalet-style event space.

Christmas by the River will run until January 3.

Christmas at Kew

Christmas at Kew, located at the Royal Botanical Gardens, is an enchanting laser & lights show for both young and old. It’s a popular after-dark Christmas event that showcases millions of sparkling lights illuminating the paths around the gardens, ribbons of changing lights wrapped in clusters of trees, a mesmerizing show of laser beams and kaleidoscopic projections, a flickering Fire Garden, as well as a glimpse of Santa and his elves at the North Pole Village.

Have a glass of mulled wine or hot chocolate with toasted marshmallows while the kids are busy adoring the sights.

Ice Skating at Somerset House

Spend a day gliding along London’s most beautiful ice skating rink at Somerset House while admiring the beauty of its giant, sparkling Christmas tree. Your family and friends will definitely enjoy this year’s Skate Extras, where delicious treats are offered; Skate Lates, a special program for music featuring Balamii, Supa Dupa Fly, and other special guests to be announced; and the Fortnum’s Christmas Arcade, a new rink-side pop-up shop where you can buy all the Christmas decorations and gifts you need.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland is a sure hit for the kids and the kid-at-heart. This winter festival features over 100 spectacular rides and attractions including an open-air ice rink, roller coaster rides, food stalls, live music, festive bars, as well as breath-taking views across London in the Giant Observation Wheel.

Hyde Park, one of London’s eight royal parks, is also home to a series of popular landmarks like Speaker’s Corner and Diana, Serpentine Lake, and Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain.
